The first Anuga was held in 1919 in Stuttgart as part of a national gathering organized by German specialty food retailers. Initially, it was a small-scale event with approximately 200 exhibitors and no international participation.

Today, Anuga has evolved into one of the world’s leading and oldest international food trade fairs. It is now an annual event alongside the meeting of the German Specialty Food Retailers Association (Reichsverband deutscher Feinkostkaufleute).
